Our summer calendar is starting to shape up. This year we plan to offer more day trips and tours. Dates and trips coming soon! If you have a need for any type of kayak lessons or training feel free to contact us and we will schedule and tailor a course to address your needs.



  • June

    • 6-12-10 Introduction to Kayaking course #2641-200 with the Newark Parks and Recreation Department.
    • 6-13-10 Eastern Mountain Sports demo day at Lums Pond. EMS is hosting a day of trying demo equipment, hiking and biking. It will be a great day to demo some kayaks and learn about equipment and outdoor clubs in the Delaware area.

    July

    • 7-10-10 - Beyond the Basics, Newark Parks and Recreation Department Activity number 2642-200. To sign up for this course and for more information, please contact the Newark Parks and Recreation department at (302)-366-7169.
      • This fun 3 hour course is for the kayaker who knows the basics and wants to expand their skill set. We will be covering the J-lean for proper body positioning, high and low braces to help keep you from taking a swim and the draw and sculling draw strokes to move your kayak sideways.
      • Time: 9am - 12pm
      • Location: Lums Pond, Area 1
      • All equipment included

    • 7-17-10 American Canoe Association Coastal Kayak Basic Strokes and Rescues

    With requests from some paddlers, we have changed the date for this course to a Saturday the 17th. The move to Saturday has also allowed us to add more fun! See Below!

    Learn new skills, practice known skills and join us after the course is complete for an evening barbeque (included in course the price). Hang out with us after the couse at New Jersey Kayak's bayside marina, have some dinner and maybe head out for an evening/sunset paddle on the bay!

    Coastal Kayak Basic Strokes and Rescues

     10% discount for WTC members

     Coastal Kayak Basic Strokes and Rescues (Level 3) is an eight-hour course focused on helping the student learn to travel safely and efficiently by kayak of the type designated as a sea kayak with bulkheads or flotation. There is more emphasis on self-rescue and assisted-rescue techniques and the stability strokes are introduced. Also, Rules of the Navigable Road, tides and currents, wind and waves, emergency equipment, use of VHF radios and weather radios, understanding charts and basic use of a compass are covered in more depth. Graduates should be capable of paddling up to half mile off shore with mild conditions such as light and variable winds, up to one foot of wind chop, and current speeds up to 1 knot.     This course will be given at New Jersey Kayak in Barnegat, NJ. New Jersey kayak is a great facility for this course and offers the convenience of a sheltered marina, bathrooms, showers and is located only 3 miles from exit 67 of the Garden State Expressway.
